25 years of the Ballast Trust

The Ballast Trust is a charitable foundation that provides a rescue, sorting and cataloguing service for business archives with an emphasis on technical records such as shipbuilding, railway and engineering plans, drawings and photographs. It is based in Johnstone, near Glasgow.

Founded in 1987 by businessman and industrial historian William Lind (1931-2007), the trust has processed technical records on behalf of national and local archive repositories and museums. The pioneering work of Bill Lind in rescuing and making available these records is now chronicled and celebrated in a history of its first twenty-five years.
